About Me
Hello, I'm Sorrel, I am passionate about helping dogs and their owners to understand one another, resolve behaviour issues, achieve training goals and build strong bonds together based on trust.
I only use kind, modern, science-based methods and take a holistic approach to working with dogs and helping them to change their behaviour.
I believe it is important to help dogs learn life skills such as focus, calmness and confidence.
I believe in promoting understanding, connection and communication between dogs and humans and building relationships founded on trust and love.
It all started with my rescue dog
My background is many years of law in the City which means I tend to look closely at the detail and check things for sense. When a rescue dog joined our family in 2013 and I became a dog owner, I felt out of my depth and also slightly bewildered by the volume of often contradictory advice given to dog owners.
I questioned what I was being advised, read a lot and started to go on courses to learn as much as I could about dogs and their behaviour. Over time, I found myself on a journey from puzzled dog owner to modern dog trainer and I gained the IMDTB Level 5 qualification in behaviour. This means I am able to distinguish between “old school” myths and the science of how dogs learn; train dogs using kind, modern, effective techniques; understand what drives dogs’ behaviour and how to go about changing behaviour, should we need to, thoughtfully.
Qualified & Up To Date
I'm proud to be an assessed and qualified IMDTB Member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, having passed the IMDTB Level 5 course in canine behaviour. I hold the Dog Training Instructor’s Course Foundation and Advanced Certificates from the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the Think Dog Certificate.
Continuous professional development is important to me; I regularly attend courses and seminars in order to keep up with the latest techniques in modern dog training, the science of how dogs learn and dog behaviour (ask if you’d like details). In 2022, I completed a year’s mentorship programme with the IMDT.
I learn a great deal from dogs themselves, especially the three rescue spaniels with whom I live.
